I edit the report, pitch the story, and prepare the spokesperson.

I advise policy, advocacy, and mission-driven organizations when their work needs to resonate with the public and policymakers. As a former journalist, I know what editors will run and what reporters will ask.

Case study

A climate proposal that made its way into the federal-Alberta agreement

In 2025, Clean Prosperity became the first organization to publicly propose how Ottawa and Alberta could reach a deal on climate and energy. I pitched reporters, prepared the organization’s spokespeople, and drafted the public messaging.

When the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding that November, it reflected key proposals from the organization.

Services

What I do

Communications strategy

Senior advice to CEOs and leadership teams on strategy, campaigns, and earned media, including interim cover when your communications lead is away.

Media training

Preparation for researchers, executives, and advocates before a high-stakes interview, or a standing program that builds a bench of spokespeople.

Writing and editing

Op-eds, reports, and long-form pieces for non-profits and companies. I also write for professional-services firms, from executive communications to long-form profiles of family enterprises such as Lego and Hermès. My own writing has appeared in The Globe and Mail and The Boston Globe.

Scope, process, and how engagements work

Media training

Practise with a former reporter before the real one calls

The spokespeople I have prepared have gone on to field questions on national and local news, in print, radio, and television interviews, and on a full-hour CBC call-in show.

The briefing

How reporters work, and how to prepare and deliver key messages.

Preparation

Questions and answers written for each spokesperson and the subject they will cover.

Mock interviews

Run the way a reporter would run them, using the questions they are likely to ask.

Your format

On camera or off, in person or by video call.

“Sarah’s media training pushed me to sharpen my message and get to the heart of what I wanted to communicate. She immersed me in a realistic interview environment and challenged me with tough questions. I came away much more confident in my ability to stay on message and handle challenging media interviews.”

Benjamin Dachis, vice president of research and outreach, Clean Prosperity
